Defining Self-Image

Defining Self-Image

A healthy self-image is seeing yourself as God sees you; no more and no less. And that’s based upon the fact that the truest thing about you is what God says about you.

Now the question is, in the Word of God, in divine instruments of the manual of our Creator of who we are, what does God say is true about you and about me? You know from Genesis, the first book of the Bible to the last book of the Bible there’s one overriding theme, and that is this: you are special. You say, “Well Josh, I don’t feel special.” Well, I’m not talking about how you feel. I’m talking about you, what is true of who you are. God says you are special, and that is true regardless of your feelings or your emotions. Now, what are you going to trust is the truest thing about you? What God says or your own feelings and emotions? He says you are special. Listen to some of the things that God, in ways that God describes you. He says, “Remember that the Lord rescued you to become his own people and special possession.” That is what you are today. Wow, a special possession of the creator of the universe. And then God goes on and says, “You are precious to me, you are honored, and I love you.” Have you ever wanted to feel precious to someone? Well to God you are. And then he said, “He led to his place of safety. He rescued me…” Why? “…because he delights in me.” Oh, when I learned that God delights in me, that was one of the greatest motivations to trust him for who He is and to respond to His love. And He goes on and He says, How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.” In other words he’s saying, “God your thoughts about me are so precious, they are innumerable. I can’t even count them. They outnumber the grains of sand. And when I wake up in the morning, you are there.”

The first truth that God says about you is you are special. But the question is why are you special? What has God done in and through your life that makes you special? I want to look at that in a number of segments that we’re going to be covering. What does God say is true about you?
